Kotsireas Editorial: Boston, MA : Springer US Fecha de publicación: 2013 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: Fields Institute Communications, ISSN 1069-5265 num. 66 Número de páginas: X, 242 p Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-1-4614-5389-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Mathematics Applied mathematics Engineering Mathematical models Biomathematics Modeling and Industrial Applications of Computational Biology Clasificación: 51 Matemáticas Resumen: This volume presents a selection of in-depth studies and state-of-the-art surveys of several challenging topics that are at the forefront of modern applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, and computational science. These three areas represent the foundation upon which the methodology of mathematical modeling and computational experiment is built as a tool in all areas of applications of mathematics. The articles cover both fundamental and applied research, and provide the reader with state-of-the-art achievements in the development and application of new theories at the interfaces of applied mathematics, modeling, and computational science. The book can serve as a reference on several important current topics in modern applied mathematics and modeling, including random matrix theory with its innovative applications, and dynamic blocking problems. Other important areas covered include: energy stable weighted essentially non-oscillatory schemes with applications in fluid dynamics and aerospace sciences; elliptic curves over finite fields and their applications in cryptography; multiple scale methods coupling network and continuum models and their applications in various areas involving porous media; new and efficient finite difference schemes for hyperbolic equations; statistical geometric and topological techniques and their applications in the life sciences; optimal control applications combining discrete and continuous features. The material presented in this book aims at fostering interdisciplinary collaborations required to meet the modern challenges of applied mathematics, modeling and computational science. At the same time, the contributions combine rigorous mathematical and computational procedures and examples from a variety of applications ranging from engineering to life sciences, and provide a rich source for graduate student projects En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-5389-5 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=32253 Advances in Applied Mathematics, Modeling, and Computational Science [documento electrónico] / SpringerLink (Online service) ; Roderick Melnik ; Ilias S. Título : Advances in Meta-Analysis Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Pigott, Terri D ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Boston, MA : Springer US Fecha de publicación: 2012 Colección: Statistics for Social and Behavioral Sciences Número de páginas: XIV, 158 p Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-1-4614-2278-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Statistics for Social Science, Behavorial Education, Public Policy, and Law Statistics, general Clasificación: 51 Matemáticas Resumen: Meta-analysis is used increasingly in the social sciences to synthesize research results. As both primary research and the questions addressed by meta-analysis have been grown more complex, meta-analysis techniques have evolved to address these issues. This book covers a number of advances in meta-analysis that are not covered in detail in many introductory books on research synthesis. More specifically, this book discusses the planning of a meta-analysis for complex questions, computing power for tests in meta-analysis, handling missing data in meta-analysis, integrating individual data into a traditional meta-analysis and generalizing from the results of a meta-analysis. For each topic, a fully annotated example is provided with sample computer programs for the major statistical packages. This book assumes a familiarity with basic meta-analytic techniques. The goal of the book is to provide researchers with advanced strategies for strengthening the planning, conduct and interpretations of meta-analysis with complex data. Terri D. Pigott is a Professor of Research Methodology in Loyola University Chicago’s School of Education. Her research interests are in developing new methods for meta-analysis, and the use of meta-analysis in public policy Nota de contenido: Rationale and overview of the book -- Complexities of primary research and meta-analysis -- Fixed, random, and mixed models -- Correlations -- Effect sizes -- Proportion/odds ratio data -- Dependence in primary research and meta-analysis -- Correlations -- Effect sizes (group comparisons and change measures) -- Proportion/odds ratio data -- Bayesian approaches -- Missing data -- Combining across designs -- Qualitative studies in synthesis -- Quality assessments -- Studies on quality weighting -- Summary/Conclusions En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-2278-5 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=32788 Advances in Meta-Analysis [documento electrónico] / Pigott, Terri D ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Boston, MA : Springer US, 2012 . - XIV, 158 p : online resource. - (Statistics for Social and Behavioral Sciences) .

Organización de empresas Resumen: Advances in social science research methodologies and data analytic methods are changing the way research in information systems is conducted. New developments in statistical software technologies for data mining (DM) such as regression splines or decision tree induction can be used to assist researchers in systematic post-positivist theory testing and development. Established management science techniques like data envelopment analysis (DEA), and value focused thinking (VFT) can be used in combination with traditional statistical analysis and data mining techniques to more effectively explore behavioral questions in information systems research. As adoption and use of these research methods expand, there is growing need for a resource book to assist doctoral students and advanced researchers in understanding their potential to contribute to a broad range of research problems. Advances in Research Methods for Information Systems Research: Data Mining, Data Envelopment Analysis, Value Focused Thinking focuses on bridging and unifying these three different methodologies in order to bring them together in a unified volume for the information systems community. This book serves as a resource that provides overviews on each method, as well as applications on how they can be employed to address IS research problems. Its goal is to help researchers in their continuous efforts to set the pace for having an appropriate interplay between behavioral research and design science Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Logical Foundations of Social Science Research -- Overview on Decision Tree Induction -- Using Decision Tree Induction for Theory Development -- A Hybrid Decision Tree-based Method for Exploring Cumulative Abnormal Returns -- An Ethnographic Decision Tree Modeling: An Exploration of Telecentre Usage in the Human Development Context -- Using Association Rules Mining to Facilitate Qualitative Data Analysis in Theory Building -- Overview on Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines -- Reexamining the Impact of Information Technology Investment on Productivity Using Regression Tree and MARS -- Overview on Cluster Analysis -- Overview on Data Envelopment Analysis -- Exploring the ICT Utilization using Data Envelopment Analysis -- A DEA-centric Decision Support System for Monitoring Efficiency-Based Performance -- Overview on the Value Focused Thinking Methodology -- Using Value Focused Thinking to Develop Performance Criteria & Measures for Information Systems Projects En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-9463-8 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35928 Advances in Research Methods for Information Systems Research : Data Mining, Data Envelopment Analysis, Value Focused Thinking [documento electrónico] / SpringerLink (Online service) ; Kweku-Muata Osei-Bryson ; Ojelanki Ngwenyama . - Boston, MA : Springer US : Imprint: Springer, 2014 . - VII, 231 p. 52 illus., 30 illus. in color : online resource. - (Integrated Series in Information Systems, ISSN 1571-0270; 34) .
