Título : Complexity, Cognition, Urban Planning and Design : Post-Proceedings of the 2nd Delft International Conference Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Juval Portugali ; SpringerLink (Online service) ; Egbert Stolk Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: Springer Proceedings in Complexity, ISSN 2213-8684 Número de páginas: XXVI, 316 p. 110 illus., 63 illus. in color Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-32653-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Urban geography planning City Complexity, Computational Regional economics Spatial Economics Regional/Spatial Science Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns) Complexity Clasificación: 330 Economía en general Resumen: This book, which resulted from an intensive discourse between experts from several disciplines - complexity theorists, cognitive scientists, philosophers, urban planners and urban designers, as well as a zoologist and a physiologist - addresses various issues regarding cities. It is a first step in responding to the challenge of generating just such a discourse, based on a dilemma identified in the CTC (Complexity Theories of Cities) domain. The latter has demonstrated that cities exhibit the properties of natural, organic complex systems: they are open, complex and bottom-up, have fractal structures and are often chaotic. CTC have further shown that many of the mathematical formalisms and models developed to study material and organic complex systems also apply to cities. The dilemma in the current state of CTC is that cities differ from natural complex systems in that they are hybrid complex systems composed, on the one hand, of artifacts such as buildings, roads and bridges, and of natural human agents on the other. This raises a plethora of new questions on the difference between the natural and the artificial, the cognitive origin of human action and behavior, and the role of planning and designing cities. The answers to these questions cannot come from a single discipline; they must instead emerge from a discourse between experts from several disciplines engaged in CTC Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Part I: Complexity, Cognition and Cities -- 1. What makes cities complex? -- 2. Evolving a Plan: Design and Planning with Complexity -- 3. Self-organization and design as complementary pair -- 4. Cultivating complexity: The need for a shift in cognition -- 5. The fourth sustainability, creativity: Statistical associations and credible mechanism -- 6. Design thinking as principles for the structure of creative cities -- Part II: On Termites, Rats and Cities -- 7. Swarm cognition and swarm construction. Lessons from a social insect master builder -- 8. Physical, Behavioral, and Spatiotemporal Perspectives of Home in Humans and other Animals -- Part III: Complexity, Cognition and Planning -- 9. Framing the Planning Game: A cognitive understanding of the planner's rationale in a differentiated world -- 10. Global scale predictions of cities in urban and in cognitive planning -- 11. Título : Governing Metropolitan Transport : Institutional Solutions for Policy Problems Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Simone Busetti ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2015 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology, ISSN 2191-530X Número de páginas: XV, 119 p. 3 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-10659-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Transportation Service industries Urban geography Public finance administration Regional economics Spatial Economics Regional/Spatial Science Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns) Administration Services Clasificación: 658 Empresas. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book investigates the link between institutions and public policies with specific reference to transport. It opens by examining the main arguments for the establishment of metropolitan transport authorities. The potential impacts of institutional change on the policy efficiency of institutions are then examined. Key problems for institutional designers are identified, showing how they can hamper the achievement of desired policy outcomes through institutional solutions. Two in-depth case studies on institutional change in metropolitan transport (in London and Barcelona) are presented with a view to testing the aforementioned hypotheses and providing insights into the ways in which the two transport institutions were reformed. The concluding chapter identifies lessons for institutional designers and highlights the policy results that may be expected from the constitution of metropolitan transport authorities En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-10659-5 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35471 Governing Metropolitan Transport : Institutional Solutions for Policy Problems [documento electrónico] / Simone Busetti ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Cham : Springer International Publishing : Imprint: Springer, 2015 . - XV, 119 p. 3 illus : online resource. - (SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology, ISSN 2191-530X) .

Título : Urban Innovation Networks : Understanding the City as a Strategic Resource Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Alexander Gutzmer ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: X, 123 p. 11 illus., 1 illus. in color Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-24624-6 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Business Management Industrial management Urban geography planning City Economic policy Regional economics Spatial sociology and Innovation/Technology Urbanism Organizational Studies, Sociology Geography / (inc. megacities, cities, towns) R & D/Technology Policy Regional/Spatial Science Clasificación: 71 Urbanismo. Ordenación regional, urbana y rural. Paisajismo, parques y jardines. Resumen: This book offers fresh insights into how companies can engage with, and make use of, the modern metropolis. Based on actor-network theory and the resource-based view of the firm, it demonstrates how the contemporary city can be seen - and used - as a resource for corporate innovation. The main argument is that companies have to build what the author calls "urban innovation networks." After a theory-based outline of such networks, the author demonstrates the extent to which different institutional players - companies such as Audi, Ikea and Siemens, but also arts institutions like the Haus der Kunst in Munich - are already working to create them. The book combines management thinking with urban theory and the sociology of networks to create a unique blend of different views of capitalism and space, offering a new perspective on both the modern metropolis and globally operating companies active within our distinctly urban culture Nota de contenido: Foreword -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Globalized Space Versus Refuge of Locality? Beyond the Global Cities discourse -- 3 Rethinking the City: Actor-Network Theory and the Creation of Urban Connections -- 4 Urban Intensities: Architecture, Design, Affect -- 5 Rethinking Innovation: The Urban Perspective -- 6 Five Urban Stages -- 7 Conclusion En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-24624-6 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=41540 Urban Innovation Networks : Understanding the City as a Strategic Resource [documento electrónico] / Alexander Gutzmer ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Cham : Springer International Publishing : Imprint: Springer, 2016 . - X, 123 p. 11 illus., 1 illus. in color : online resource.
