Título : The Foundations of Statistics: A Simulation-based Approach Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Shravan Vasishth ; SpringerLink (Online service) ; Michael Broe Editorial: Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg Fecha de publicación: 2011 Número de páginas: XV, 178 p Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-642-16313-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Mathematics Data mining Applied mathematics Engineering Psycholinguistics Study and teaching Psychology Applications of Mining Knowledge Discovery Education Psychology, general Clasificación: 51 Matemáticas Resumen: Statistics and hypothesis testing are routinely used in areas (such as linguistics) that are traditionally not mathematically intensive. In such fields, when faced with experimental data, many students and researchers tend to rely on commercial packages to carry out statistical data analysis, often without understanding the logic of the statistical tests they rely on. As a consequence, results are often misinterpreted, and users have difficulty in flexibly applying techniques relevant to their own research — they use whatever they happen to have learned. A simple solution is to teach the fundamental ideas of statistical hypothesis testing without using too much mathematics. This book provides a non-mathematical, simulation-based introduction to basic statistical concepts and encourages readers to try out the simulations themselves using the source code and data provided (the freely available programming language R is used throughout). Since the code presented in the text almost always requires the use of previously introduced programming constructs, diligent students also acquire basic programming abilities in R. The book is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline, although the focus is on linguistics, psychology, and cognitive science. It is designed for self-instruction, but it can also be used as a textbook for a first course on statistics. Earlier versions of the book have been used in undergraduate and graduate courses in Europe and the US. ”Vasishth and Broe have written an attractive introduction to the foundations of statistics. It is concise, surprisingly comprehensive, self-contained and yet quite accessible. Highly recommended.” Harald Baayen, Professor of Linguistics, University of Alberta, Canada ”By using the text students not only learn to do the specific things outlined in the book, they also gain a skill set that empowers them to explore new areas that lie beyond the book’s coverage.” Colin Phillips, Professor of Linguistics, University of Maryland, USA Nota de contenido: 1. Getting Started -- 2. Randomness and Probability -- 3. The Sampling Distribution of the Sample Mean -- 4. Power -- 5. Analysis of Variance (NOVA) -- 6. Bivariate Statistics and Linear Models -- 7. An Introduction to Linear Mixed Models. A. Título : Applied Multidimensional Scaling Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Ingwer Borg ; SpringerLink (Online service) ; Patrick J. F. Groenen ; Patrick Mair Editorial: Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg Fecha de publicación: 2013 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: SpringerBriefs in Statistics, ISSN 2191-544X Número de páginas: IX, 113 p. 59 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-642-31848-1 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Materias: Estadística Palabras clave: Statistics Mathematics Visualization Social sciences Psychology and Computing/Statistics Programs Psychology, general for Science, Behavorial Education, Public Policy, Law in the Humanities Sciences Clasificación: 519.2 Probabilidad y estadística matemática Resumen: This book introduces MDS as a psychological model and as a data analysis technique for the applied researcher. It also discusses, in detail, how to use two MDS programs, Proxscal (a module of SPSS) and Smacof (an R-package). The book is unique in its orientation on the applied researcher, whose primary interest is in using MDS as a tool to build substantive theories. This is done by emphasizing practical issues (such as evaluating model fit), by presenting ways to enforce theoretical expectations on the MDS solution, and by discussing typical mistakes that MDS users tend to make. The primary audience of this book are psychologists, social scientists, and market researchers. No particular background knowledge is required, beyond a basic knowledge of statistics Nota de contenido: First Steps -- The Purpose of MDS -- The Goodness of an MDS Solution -- Proximities -- Variants of Different MDS Models -- Confirmatory MDS -- Typical Mistakes in MDS -- MDS Algorithms -- Computer Programs for MDS En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-31848-1 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=32519 Applied Multidimensional Scaling [documento electrónico] / Ingwer Borg ; SpringerLink (Online service) ; Patrick J. Organización de empresas Resumen: As the residential buildings sector accounts for around 30 percent of the final energy demand in Germany, this sector is increasingly becoming the focus of public attention with regard to climate change. In this book, decisions on energy consumption by private households are examined. The analyses are based on several empirical methods. The results show that the road to more sustainable energy consumption in residential buildings is not hampered by a lack of will on behalf of the consumers. However one should be realistic that there are many instances where improving thermal institution involves additional economic costs for individual households Nota de contenido: Introduction and Theoretical Framework -- Analysis of Existing Data: Determinants for the Adoption of Energy-Efficient Household Appliances in Germany -- Results of the SECO@Home Household Survey and Discrete Choice Analysis -- Firm Strategies and Political Instruments -- Impacts of the Instruments -- Home Heating, Technology and Gender: A Qualitative Analysis En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-7908-2849-8 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=36677 Sustainable Energy Consumption in Residential Buildings [documento electrónico] / SpringerLink (Online service) ; Klaus Rennings ; Bettina Brohmann ; Julia Nentwich ; Schleich, Joachim ; Thure Traber ; Rolf Wüstenhagen . - Heidelberg : Physica-Verlag HD, 2013 . - X, 266 p : online resource. - (ZEW Economic Studies, ISSN 1615-6781; 44) .
