Título : Climate Sensitive Adaptation in Health : Imperatives for India in a Developing Economy Context Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Purnamita Dasgupta ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: New Delhi : Springer India Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: XXII, 194 p. 74 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-81-322-2824-0 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Climate change Public health Health economics Medical Development Environmental Economics Change/Climate Change Impacts Clasificación: 330 Economía en general Resumen: This book focuses on the risks that climate change poses for the health sector. It discusses the current vulnerabilities to climate-sensitive diseases, the resultant mortality and morbidity in human populations, the projected risks in connection with increasing global warming, and the options for tackling the adverse impacts of climate change. Adapting to climate change so as to effectively address the risks for and adverse impacts on the health sector requires an in-depth understanding of current deficits in health sector preparedness for climate-sensitive illnesses, as well as future plans and programs for increasing adaptive capacity and building resilience. The book situates climate and health adaptation concerns in the broader context of developing countries, providing insights that can be useful for other countries as well, helping them further their health adaptation efforts. In India, poverty and inadequate access to basic water, health and sanitation services combine with climate-related events to adversely impact health outcomes. Three case studies on the occurrence of heat stress, flooding, and extreme cyclonic events in India are presented along with a critical assessment of the level of preparedness and capacity of healthcare facilities to respond to the threats posed by climate change. The book presents the key challenges faced in reducing the risks posed to the health sector by climatic factors, and highlights the most important opportunities for promoting resilience and adaptation to achieve sustainable development. Dr. Dasgupta's excellent book reviews the health risks of climate change, outlines an operational framework for health adaptation, and describes the socioeconomic context for adaptation in India. - Kristie L. Ebi Professor, Departments of Global Health, and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, University of Washington, USA This pioneering work contributes to an the understanding of the preparedness in India to manage health risks from such (climate) change on the basis of detailed data analysis, both from large national surveys and contextualized field based surveys. - Kanchan Chopra Former Director and Professor, Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi, India Nota de contenido: Introduction: Climate Risks in the Health Sector -- Climate Change Adaptation: The International Experience in Health -- Developing Economy Context for Adaptation Decision-Making -- Understanding Associations: Health, Socio-economic Wellbeing & Climate -- Analysing the Interface in Indian Plans and Policies -- Criticality of the Field: Three Case Studies -- Conclusion: Integrating Sustainable Development and Health Adaptation. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book explores the environmental competitiveness of 133 countries around the world, presenting an index evaluation system to facilitate a comparative analysis of environmental competitiveness on a global scale. This is a new way to measure competitiveness in the light of the contradiction between world economic development and environmental protection. Global environmental competitiveness covers five aspects: the ecological environment, resources environment, environmental management, environmental impacts and environmental coordination. The authors use longitudinal study and horizontal analysis, combining qualitative and quantitative analysis methods so as to conduct an in-depth study of theoretical, empirical and methodological issues of global environmental competitiveness. The work is presented here in three main parts beginning with the theory, technical road-map and analytical approach used. The second part reports on the countries as evaluation objects, analyzing the development status of global environmental competitiveness as a whole and revealing the strengths and weaknesses of each country’s environmental competitiveness. Basic paths and strategies to enhance the competitiveness level are presented. In the third part the reader will discover a sub-report and evaluation of the environmental competitiveness for 133 countries around the world, revealing the characteristics and relative differences of countries representing different levels of development, in order to provide an important decision-making reference to those considering environmental economic policies, especially those considering accelerating a green economic transformation and enhancing environmental competitiveness. This book will appeal to scholars and professionals with an interest in environmental issues and environmental competitiveness at a global level, as well as those with an interest in each of the 133 countries analyzed in this text, including environmental policy makers in those countries Nota de contenido: Preface -- Part 1 Theory and Methodology -- Part 2 General Report of Global Environment Competitiveness -- Part 3 Sub Report -- Appendix -- Postscript En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-54678-5 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=36206 Report on Global Environmental Competitiveness (2013) [documento electrónico] / SpringerLink (Online service) ; Li Jianping ; Li Minrong ; Wang Jinnan ; Li Jianjian ; Su Hongwen ; Huang Maoxing . - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 2014 . - XXXI, 846 p. 437 illus : online resource. - (Current Chinese Economic Report Series, ISSN 2194-7937) .

Organización de empresas Resumen: This book adopts a linear optimization method and introduces a dynamic optimization simulation model for analyzing synthetic environmental policies as endogenous variables in order to improve the environment and provide more biomass energy. The model considers both the total ecological system and the socio-economic situational changes. The purpose of the research is to establish effective utilization methods for biomass resources as well as to coordinate resource reutilization, environmental conservation and economic development, and ultimately to achieve sustainable development of society. By selecting for examination a typical suburb of a major city in China (Miyun County near Beijing), the book improves the simulation model and focuses on the evaluation of water pollutant minimization based on the ecological value of Miyun Reservoir. In the simulation, the author takes into account the specific and unique characteristics of China’s economy and social state in terms of sustained economic growth rate, financial subordination relations and regional environmental policies, all of which differ from the model for Japan. Beyond these innovations, the book introduces two advanced technologies from Japan and China to the study area through simulation with integrated policies, and presents a regional analysis and allocation strategy for these technologies, which have demonstrated impressive operability in practice, in light of the current conditions and limited funds in China Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Characteristics of the Study Area -- Evaluation of Water Pollutant-Minimization Policies with Adopting Present Technology -- Analysis is Optimal Environmental Policies with Advanced Technologies for Effective Treatment of Stockbreeding Wastes -- Comprehensive Evaluation of Environmental Policies with Advanced Technologies for Effective Utilization of Biomass Resource -- Cost Benefit Analysis and Regional Analysis -- Conclusions En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-44454-2 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35772 Comprehensive Evaluation of Effective Biomass Resource Utilization and Optimal Environmental Policies [documento electrónico] / Jingjing Yan ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 2015 . - XVIII, 107 p. 31 illus., 2 illus. in color : online resource. - (SpringerBriefs in Economics, ISSN 2191-5504) .
