Organización de empresas Resumen: This book describes the history of the IMF from its birth, through the Bretton Woods era, and in the aftermath. Special attention is paid to integrating IMF history with the macro-economic policies of member countries and of other international institutions as well. This collection of work presents a clear understanding, inter alia, of the influence of the United States over IMF policy via the National Advisory Committee; the dealings of the IMF with the UK on pound sterling policy; the institutional change of the IMF brought about by Per Jacobsson, the third managing director; and France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan vis-à-vis IMF consultations. It also provides the reader with topics concerning the bankers’ acceptance market function and international liquidity issues in relation to IMF policy; the final chapter sheds light on the long-standing relations between the IMF and China, from the Bretton Woods Agreement to the contemporary period. All the chapters are archive-based academic studies providing deep insights with historical background, which makes this book the first thoroughly independent achievement in the field of IMF history. This book is highly recommended to readers interested in contemporary monetary and financial history and those who seek to obtain a coherent image of postwar international institutions and markets Nota de contenido: I. Foundation and Development of the IMF -- Ch1 Prehistory of the IMF: Debates in the UK and Anglo-American Negotiation (M.Itoh) -- Ch2 Early Policy Formation of the IMF: in relation to the NAC (I.Suto) -- Ch3 Struggle of the IMF, 1944-61: Toward the creation of the Postwar Monetary System (T.Nishikawa) -- Ch4 “Maybe the Fund needs something else” Per Jacobsson, from the Bank for International Settlements to the International Monetary Fund, 1931–1963 (P.Clement) -- Ch5 International Liquidity Problem in the 1960s: IMF Board Discussions (Y.Noshita) -- Ch6 Return to Convertibility of the West European Currencies and the BA Market: IMF and FRB (M.Tsurumi) -- II. The contributors come from different fields of social and human sciencies, all featuring an interdisciplinary approach to the study of societal development. The types of big issues analyzed in this volume include the formation of European and non-European states in the early modern and modern period, the emergence of various forms of states and eventually modern democracies with extensive welfare states, the violent upheavals that influenced these processes, the persistence of dictatorships and non-democratic forms of government, and the arrival of total war and its consequences, especially in the context of twentieth-century world wars. One of the key themes is the dichotomy between democracies and dictatorships; namely, what were the origins of their emergence and evolution, why did some revolutions succeed and other fail, and why did democracies, on the whole, emerge victorious in the twentieth-century age of total wars? The contributions in this book are written with academic and non-academic audiences in mind, and both will find the broad themes discussed in this volume intuitive and useful. Nota de contenido: Part I Wars and State Formation in the Short and Long Run -- 1 Paths to Inclusive Political Institutions (Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson) -- 2 States and Development: Early Modern India, China and Great Divergence (Bishnupriya Gupta, Debin Ma and Tirthankar Roy) -- Part II Political Economy of Democracies and Dictatorships -- 3 Decentralization, Fiscal Structure, and Local State Capacity in Late-Imperial Russia (Steven Nafziger) -- 4 Historicizing Divergence: A Comparative Analysis of the Revolutionary Crises in Russia and Finland (Pavel Osinsky and Jari Eloranta) -- 5 Repression and Punishment under Stalin: Evidence from the Soviet Archives (Andrei Markevich) -- Part III Economic History of the World Wars -- 6 Myths of the Great War (Mark Harrison) -- 7 War and Inflation in the United States from the Revolution to the Persian Gulf War (Hugh Rockoff) -- 8 Lessons Learned? British Mobilisation for the Two World Wars (Stephen Broadberry and Peter Howlett) -- 9 World War II and US Economic Performance (Price V. Fishback and Taylor Jaworski) -- 10 The Mirage of the German Armament Miracle in World War II (Jonas Scherner and Jochen Streb) .-11 Neutrality in War (Eric Golson). Industrial districts, which refer to the geographical concentration of enterprises producing similar or closely related commodities in a small area, play a significant role in the development of manufacturing industries not only historically in Europe and Japan but also at present in emerging East Asian economies, such as China and Vietnam and low-income countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The book identifies similarities in the development patterns of industrial districts in history and the present and analyzes the reasons for these similarities. More specifically, the book examines whether Marshallian agglomeration economies provide sufficient explanations and seeks to deepen understanding about the important factors that are missing. Despite the common issues addressed by economic historians and development economists regarding the advantages of industrial districts for industrial development, discussion of these issues between the two groups of researchers has been largely absent, or at best weak. The purpose of this book is to integrate the results of case studies by economic historians interested in France, Spain, and Japan and those by development economists interested in the contemporary industries still developing in China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Tanzania, and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Nota de contenido: Part I Introduction -- 1 Beyond Marshallian Agglomeration Economies -- 2 Toward a New Paradigm of the Long-Term Development of Industrial Districts -- Part II Pivotal Role of Technology Transfer -- 3 Technology Transfer and the Early Development of the Cotton Textile Industry in 19th Century Spain -- 4 Contrasting Development Paths of Silk-Weaving Districts in Modern Japan -- 5 Emergence and Subsequent Development of Garment Clusters in Bangladesh and Tanzania -- Part III Central Role of Producer Cooperatives -- 6 Trade Association and Economic Regulation in the Lyons Fabrique: From the 1860s to the 1920s -- 7 Development of High-Value Agricultural Districts: The Role of Producer Cooperatives in Japan and Developing Countries -- Part IV Supporting Role of Local Government -- 8 Industrial Districts in Europe: Policy Lessons for Developing Countries? -- 9 Promotion of the Weaving Districts in Modern Japan -- 10 Low-Quality Crisis and Quality Upgrading: The Case of Industrial Clusters in Zhejiang Province En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-981-10-0182-6 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=41854 Industrial Districts in History and the Developing World [documento electrónico] / Tomoko Hashino ; SpringerLink (Online service) ; Otsuka, Keijiro . - Singapore : Springer Singapore : Imprint: Springer, 2016 . - XVI, 194 p. 15 illus., 3 illus. in color : online resource. - (Studies in Economic History, ISSN 2364-1797) .

Título : History of Banach Spaces and Linear Operators Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Pietsch, Albrecht ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Boston, MA : Birkhäuser Boston Fecha de publicación: 2007 Número de páginas: XXIII, 855 p. 82 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-0-8176-4596-0 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Mathematics Functional analysis Operator theory History of Mathematical Sciences Analysis Theory Clasificación: 51 Matemáticas Resumen: Named for Banach, one of the great mathematicians of the twentieth century, the concept of Banach spaces figures prominently in the study of functional analysis with applications to integral and differential equations, approximation theory, harmonic analysis, convex geometry, numerical mathematics, analytic complexity, and probability theory. Written by a distinguished specialist in functional analysis, this book presents a comprehensive treatment of the history of Banach spaces and (abstract bounded) linear operators. While other historical texts on the subject focus on developments before 1950, this one is mainly devoted to the second half of the 20th century. Banach space theory is presented in a broad mathematical context, using tools from such areas as set theory, topology, algebra, combinatorics, probability theory, and logic. Equal emphasis is given to both spaces and operators. Numerous examples and counterexamples elucidate the scope of the underlying concepts. As a stimulus for further research, the text also contains many problems which have not been previously solved. The book may serve as a reference for researchers and as an introduction for graduate students who want to learn Banach space theory with some historical flavor. Helpful information is also provided for professors preparing their own lectures on functional analysis Nota de contenido: The Birth of Banach Spaces -- Historical Roots and Basic Results -- Topological Concepts — Weak Topologies -- Classical Banach Spaces -- Basic Results from the Post-Banach Period -- Modern Banach Space Theory — Selected Topics -- Miscellaneous Topics -- Mathematics Is Made by Mathematicians En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-0-8176-4596-0 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=34564 History of Banach Spaces and Linear Operators [documento electrónico] / Pietsch, Albrecht ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Boston, MA : Birkhäuser Boston, 2007 . - XXIII, 855 p. 82 illus : online resource.
