Título : Policy Entrepreneurs in Water Governance : Strategies for Change Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Stijn Brouwer ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2015 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: XVI, 275 p. 34 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-17241-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Environmental management Entrepreneurship Public administration Economics Administration Water Policy/Water Governance/Water Management Clasificación: 658 Empresas. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book analyses policy making processes at the micro-level and offers a unique insight into the fascinating world of policy entrepreneurs, elucidating their strategic modus operandi. The author identifies change strategies and explores the role of individuals in policy change processes. Readers will see how these highly talented and exceptional bureaucrats are constantly on the alert for new opportunities and have the capacity to “sell” and “market” new ideas. Based on a uniquely comprehensive four-year study, entailing more than 60 in-depth interviews and an extensive survey of over 300 water policy entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, this book explores the different strategies that policy entrepreneurs employ. It identifies which conditions affect the policy entrepreneur’s selection of strategies, and, more importantly, it assesses the (contextual) effectiveness of these strategies. Although the context of the study makes this work directly relevant to those in the fields of water resources and environmental management, it delivers universally relevant conclusions on affecting policy change. In addition to the theoretical material that will appeal to scholars and students, this book highlights a series of concrete recommendations for practitioners on how to affect policy change, making it of interest to academics and decision makers in the broad areas of policy change, sustainability, and water management Nota de contenido: 1. Policy Entrepreneurs as Agents of Change -- 2. Explanations of Policy Change and the Role of Policy Entrepreneurs -- 3. Dutch Water Management -- 4. Policy Entrepreneurs in Dutch Water Management -- 5. Attention- and Support Strategies -- 6. Linking Strategies -- 7. Relational Management Strategies -- 8. Arena Strategies -- 9. Título : The Water-Food-Energy Nexus in the Mekong Region : Assessing Development Strategies Considering Cross-Sectoral and Transboundary Impacts Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: SpringerLink (Online service) ; Alexander Smajgl ; John Ward Editorial: New York, NY : Springer New York Fecha de publicación: 2013 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: XI, 231 p. 42 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-1-4614-6120-3 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Finance Energy policy and state Environmental management Macroeconomics Finance, general Water Policy/Water Governance/Water Management Policy, Economics Macroeconomics/Monetary Economics//Financial Clasificación: 658 Empresas. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book provides a cross-sectoral, multi-scale assessment of development-directed investments in the wider Mekong Region. The wider Mekong Region includes Lao PDR, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Chinese Province of Yunnan. This book gives important insight into how future sustainability will depend on the development of effective governance mechanisms at the level of the Mekong region. Evidence highlights a limited set of critical dynamics that generate a high level of connectivity between these countries, including human migration, natural resource flows and increasing levels of private and State financial investments. Besides regional connectivity, this assessment considers cross-sectoral implications, in particular those between the water, food and energy sectors. The majority of nationally planned and implemented development decisions in the wider Mekong Region aim for either improved water access, increased energy supply or improved food security. Investments in any of these three sectors are critical as they are closely linked, harbouring potential trade-offs and unintended side effects. Successfully managing the water, food and energy nexus demands an understanding of direct and indirect connections. A few identified connections are direct trade-offs, for example the use of water for either food or energy crops. Other connections are indirect and their estimated magnitude suggests their critical importance. Identified nexus criticalities include fish stock management, land tenure, risk management of monoculture plantations and migration dynamics. The sustainability of the wider Mekong region will partly depend on how successfully these processes can be managed. Managing nexus criticalities, in contrast to specific sectoral investments, represents an alternate and potentially effective locus of policy intervention and initiative. Using case studies that include mainstream dams in the lower Mekong basin, water diversions between Lao PDR and Thailand, investments in response to rising sea level, this volume provides critical information for researchers and policymakers. The research was generously funded and supported through the AusAID CSIRO Alliance. Título : Water, Politics and Money : A Reality Check on Privatization Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Schiffler, Manuel ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2015 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: XIX, 214 p. 2 illus. in color Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-16691-9 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Popular works Environmental management Finance Economics Development economics Science in / Management Water Policy/Water Governance/Water Finance, general Clasificación: 658 Empresas. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book reveals all that can potentially happen when a private company takes over a local water supply system, both the good and the bad. Backed by real life stories of water privatization in action, author Manuel Schiffler presents a nuanced picture free of spin or fear mongering. Inside, readers will find a detailed analysis of the multiple forms of water privatization, from the outright sale of companies to various forms of public-private partnerships. After covering their respective strengths and weaknesses, it then compares them to purely publicly managed water utilities. The book examines the privatization and the public management of water and sewer utilities in twelve countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Philippines, Cambodia, Egypt, Jordan, Uganda, Bolivia, Argentina and Cuba. Readers will come to understand how and why some utilities failed while others succeeded, including some that substantially increased access, became more efficient and improved service quality even in the poorest countries of the world. It is natural that a private company taking over a local water supply system causes both fear and worry for consumers. With the aid of solid empirical evidence, this book argues that who manages the system is only half the story. Rather, it is the corporate culture of the utilities and the political culture of where they operate that more often than not determines performance and how well a community is served Nota de contenido: Part I: Introduction -- Introduction -- Part II: Latin America: Two Aborted Privatizations and One that Endured -- Bolivia: The Cochabamba Water War and its Aftermath -- Cuba: Water Privatization in a Socialist Country -- Argentina: A Flagship Privatization and its Demise -- Part III: The Middle East: Reform Deadlock, with an Exception -- Egypt: Kafka on the Nile -- Jordan: Private Plants, Public Utilities -- Part IV: Europe and North America: Private and Public Utilities Compared -- The United Kingdom: A Natural Experiment between Private and Public Management -- France: An Improved Partnership in the Motherland of Multinational Water Companies -- Germany: Healthy Municipal Utilities, with a Quirk -- Berlin: Privatized to fill State Coffers, Remunicipalized at the State’s Expense -- Civil Society and the EU Concession Directive: David beats Goliath, Using a Few Tricks -- The United States: Public Water in a Capitalist Country -- Part V: Asia and Africa: Three Successful Utility Turnarounds, Public and Private -- The Philippines: A Delayed Privatization Success Story in Manila -- Uganda: A Public Utility Turnaround, Triggered by Pressure to Privatize -- Cambodia: A Public Utility Turnaround, Ending with Privatization -- Utility Turnarounds Compared: The Importance of Corporate Culture and Financing -- Part VI: Conclusions -- It is not about Private or Public En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-16691-9 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35614 Water, Politics and Money : A Reality Check on Privatization [documento electrónico] / Schiffler, Manuel ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Cham : Springer International Publishing : Imprint: Springer, 2015 . - XIX, 214 p. 2 illus. in color : online resource.

Organización de empresas Resumen: This book adopts a linear optimization method and introduces a dynamic optimization simulation model for analyzing synthetic environmental policies as endogenous variables in order to improve the environment and provide more biomass energy. The model considers both the total ecological system and the socio-economic situational changes. The purpose of the research is to establish effective utilization methods for biomass resources as well as to coordinate resource reutilization, environmental conservation and economic development, and ultimately to achieve sustainable development of society. By selecting for examination a typical suburb of a major city in China (Miyun County near Beijing), the book improves the simulation model and focuses on the evaluation of water pollutant minimization based on the ecological value of Miyun Reservoir. In the simulation, the author takes into account the specific and unique characteristics of China’s economy and social state in terms of sustained economic growth rate, financial subordination relations and regional environmental policies, all of which differ from the model for Japan. Beyond these innovations, the book introduces two advanced technologies from Japan and China to the study area through simulation with integrated policies, and presents a regional analysis and allocation strategy for these technologies, which have demonstrated impressive operability in practice, in light of the current conditions and limited funds in China Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Characteristics of the Study Area -- Evaluation of Water Pollutant-Minimization Policies with Adopting Present Technology -- Analysis is Optimal Environmental Policies with Advanced Technologies for Effective Treatment of Stockbreeding Wastes -- Comprehensive Evaluation of Environmental Policies with Advanced Technologies for Effective Utilization of Biomass Resource -- Cost Benefit Analysis and Regional Analysis -- Conclusions En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-44454-2 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=35772 Comprehensive Evaluation of Effective Biomass Resource Utilization and Optimal Environmental Policies [documento electrónico] / Jingjing Yan ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 2015 . - XVIII, 107 p. 31 illus., 2 illus. in color : online resource. - (SpringerBriefs in Economics, ISSN 2191-5504) .

Based on empirical research from the major agriculturally dynamic states, viz., Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the book provides a nuanced understanding and objective assessment of the implementation and adoption of MIS across these states. It addresses several of the questions related to adoption and impacts of MIS in India. On the adoption side, the key question that the book addresses is which segment of the farming community adopts MIS across states? The impacts analysed include those on physical, agronomic and economic aspects. At the macro level, the question being asked is about the future potential of MIS in terms of saving water from agriculture and making more water available for environment. The book also addresses the question of the positive/negative externalities and real social benefits and costs from the use of MIS, a major justification for heavy capital subsidies for its purchase by farmers. It also brings out certain critical concerns pertaining to MIS adoption, which need to be addressed through more empirical research based on longitudinal panel/ cross sectional data. The book would be of great use to researchers (agricultural water management, irrigation economics), students of water resource engineering, irrigation engineering and water resources management, as well as to policy makers and agricultural water management experts - national and international Nota de contenido: Chapter 1. Introduction -- Chapter 2. Water Saving and Yield Enhancing Micro Irrigation Technologies in India: Theory and Practice -- Chapter 3.
