Título : Arts, Sciences, and Economics : A Historical Safari Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Puu, Tönu ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg Fecha de publicación: 2015 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Número de páginas: XXIV, 189 p. 80 illus., 53 illus. in color Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-662-44130-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Arts Cultural heritage Mathematics Social sciences Statistical physics Economics Management science Culture - Economic aspects Economics, general Heritage in the Humanities and Sciences Nonlinear Dynamics Clasificación: 316.722 Cultura de diferentes sociedades. Civilización Resumen: This book deals with the economic aspects of changing attitudes in arts and sciences. The effects of the public good character of culture, along with the very long production period and lifetime for its products, are emphasized, since both contribute to the failure of normal market solutions. Embodiment of ideas, and the consequences of modern reproduction technology for protection of property rights are closely examined. The evolution within arts and sciences, which often seems to return to previously scrapped ideals, is illustrated by detailed case studies, in which the importance of changing tastes, rather than progress proper, is emphasized. The author attempts an understanding for this using Darwinian evolution in combination with modern mathematical complexity theory, expressed in terms accessible to the general reader. The second edition is extended and updated especially as regards the illustration material. “Professor Puu (…) introduces a fourth approach [to cultural economics]. (…) working it like a triangle, Arts, Sciences and Economics is, in a sense, inductive in nature. An observation made in one of the arts or the natural & engineering sciences (henceforth ‘sciences’) or economics is extended to cover the other two points of the triangle. The temporal plane of this triangle covers the pre-Renaissance to the 21st century with a special and loving emphasis on the Baroque.(...) Professor Puu’s method reminds me of Pascal’s Pensées (…), it also reminds me of Goethe (…) Unlike Goethe, however, the ‘certain order’ achieved by Professor Puu is mathematical rather than intuitive or aesthetic in nature. Underpinning the text is the correlation between Arts, Sciences and Economics through mathematics. And mathematics covers the waterfront from probability to chaos theory (…) This underpinning does, however, reveal Professor Puu as having a very well developed mathematical mind (…). Similarly, his cultural and historical erudition cannot be faulted but rather must be praised. The text is rich in example. (…) This book is not a narrative with a beginning, middle and end. It is Professor Puu’s Pensées. (…) Calculatory rationalism is not the only tool of economics. Arguably, this is one implication of the term ‘knowledge-based economy’. To such an economy, however, Professor Puu has made a most valuable and fascinating contribution.“(...) Título : Iran Revisited : Exploring the Historical Roots of Culture, Economics, and Society Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Pirzadeh, Ali ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: Arts, Research, Innovation and Society Número de páginas: XVIII, 336 p Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-30485-4 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Ethnology Middle East Economic policy Cultural studies Economics Policy Studies Eastern Culture Clasificación: 330 Economía en general Resumen: This book examines Modern Iran through an interdisciplinary analysis of its cultural norms, history and institutional environment. The goal is to underline strengths and weaknesses of Iranian society as a whole, and to illustrate less prescriptive explanations for the way Iran is seen through a lens of persistent collective conduct rather than erratic historical occurrences. Throughout its history, Iran has been subject to many studies, all of which have diagnosed the country's problem and prescribed solutions based on certain theoretical grounds. This book intends to look inward, seeking cultural explanations for Iran's perpetual inability to improve its society. The theme in this book is based on the eloquent words of Nasir Khusrau, a great Iranian poet: "az mast ki bar mast". The words are from a poem describing a self-adoring eagle that sees its life abruptly ended by an arrow winged with its own feathers-the bird is doomed by its own vanity. The closest interpretation of this idiom in Western Christian culture is "you reap what you sow", which conveys a similar message that underlines one's responsibility in the sense that, sooner or later, we must face the choices we make. This would enable us to confront - and live up to - what Iran's history and culture have taught us Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Rethinking Iranian National Character -- The Role of Ideas and Education in Iranian Society -- Historical Perspectives on Iranian Cultural Identity -- Islamization of Iranian Society -- Qajar Period and the Constitutional Revolution -- Contemporary Iran and the Iranian Economy -- Concluding Remarks. Appendix : Economic of Development -- Appendix: Rent-seeking versus Rent-creation -- Appendix: The Theory of Price -- Bibliography. The book is distinctive in that it contains both theoretical and empirical analyses, investigating relationship between causes of happiness and economic behavior relating to employment, consumption, and saving. Most notably, it is one of the first studies in this subject area that analyzes micro data collected in Europe, US and Japan with information on respondents' attributes and their economic behavior, as well as in measuring inter-temporal happiness by principal factor analysis. Research findings in this volume shed new light on public policies for a number of areas such as employment, family, social welfare, urban and regional planning, and culture. The book draws on a collaborative research project between five institutions of higher education in France, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and Japan that lasted for two years Nota de contenido: 1 Introduction -- Part I: Issues in Happiness Research-Concepts, Measurement and Interpretation -- 2 Happiness: Research and Policy Considerations (Bruno Frey and Jana Gallus) -- 3 The 'Wicked Problem' of Wellbeing: Theorising the Prospects for Policy Change (Ian Bache and Louise Reardon) -- 4 An Overview of Intertemporal Measures of Individual Well-being: Can They Explain Life Satisfaction Better? (Conchita D'Ambrosio) -- 5 The Importance of 'Domain Importance' for Happiness Economics (Tim Tiefenbach and Florian Kohlbacher) -- 6 Adaptation and the Easterlin Paradox (Andrew Clark) -- Part II: Income Inequality, Employment, and Happiness -- 7 Comparative Study of Happiness and Inequality in Five Industrialized Countries (Toshiaki Tachibanaki and Sayaka Sakoda) -- 8 Happiness, Social Cohesion and Income Inequalities in Britain and Japan (Dimitris Ballas, Danny Dorling, Tomoki Nakaya, Helena Tunstall, Kazumasa Hanaoka and Tomoya Hanibuchi) -- 9 Happiness and Employment Status (Tadashi Yagi, Katsuhiko Yonezaki and Kunio Urakawa) -- 10 The Impact of Employment System on Feeling of Happiness in Germany and Japan (Toshiyuki Shirakawa) -- 11 Effects of Paid and Unpaid Overtime Work on Stress, Earnings and Happiness (Akira Kawaguchi and Takato Kasai) -- Part III: Societal Issues and Happiness -- 12 Why Do Japanese Parents and Their Young Adult Children Live Together? (Kei Sakata and C.R. McKenzie) -- 13 Anticipation of Life Satisfaction before Emigration Evidence from German Panel Data (Marcel Erlinghagen) -- 14 Does City Size affect Happiness? Título : Evolving Norms : Cognitive Perspectives in Economics Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Teraji, Shinji ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: New York : Palgrave Macmillan US Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan Colección: Palgrave Advances in Behavioral Economics Número de páginas: XV, 355 p. 7 illus Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-1-137-50247-6 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Evolutionary economics Behavioral Culture - Economic aspects Economics Institutional/Evolutionary Behavioral/Experimental Cultural Clasificación: 330 Economía en general Resumen: This book presents institutional evolution and individual choice as codependent results of behavioral patterns. Drawing on F.A. Hayek's concepts of cognition and cultural evolution, Teraji demonstrates how the relationship between the sensory and social orders can allow economists to track social norms and their effects on the global economy. He redirects attention from the conventional focus on what an individual chooses to the changing social order that determines how an individual chooses. Cultural shifts provide the environmental feedback that challenges the mental models governing individual choice, creating a cycle of coevolution. Teraji develops a general framework from which to examine this symbiotic relationship in order to identify predictive patterns. Not just for behavioral economists, this book will also appeal to those who specialize in institutional economics, the philosophy of economics, and economic sociology Nota de contenido: 1 Foundations -- 2 Why Do People Obey Norms? -- 3 The Sensory Order Revisited -- 4 Norms, Coordination, and Order -- 5 Culture and Cultural Evolution -- 6 Co-evolution of Mind and Society -- 7 Epilogue En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1057/978-1-137-50247-6 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=41986 Evolving Norms : Cognitive Perspectives in Economics [documento electrónico] / Teraji, Shinji ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - New York : Palgrave Macmillan US : Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016 . - XV, 355 p. 7 illus : online resource. - (Palgrave Advances in Behavioral Economics) .
