Título : Fundamentals of Scientific Computing Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Bertil Gustafsson ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg Fecha de publicación: 2011 Colección: Texts in Computational Science and Engineering, ISSN 1611-0994 num. 8 Número de páginas: XIV, 326 p Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-642-19495-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Mathematics Computer simulation Bioinformatics Computational biology mathematics Physics Applied Engineering and Numerical Analysis Science Appl. in Life Sciences Appl.Mathematics/Computational Methods of Simulation Modeling Clasificación: 51 Matemáticas Resumen: The book of nature is written in the language of mathematics -- Galileo Galilei How is it possible to predict weather patterns for tomorrow, with access solely to today’s weather data? And how is it possible to predict the aerodynamic behavior of an aircraft that has yet to be built? The answer is computer simulations based on mathematical models – sets of equations – that describe the underlying physical properties. However, these equations are usually much too complicated to solve, either by the smartest mathematician or the largest supercomputer. This problem is overcome by constructing an approximation: a numerical model with a simpler structure can be translated into a program that tells the computer how to carry out the simulation. This book conveys the fundamentals of mathematical models, numerical methods and algorithms. Opening with a tutorial on mathematical models and analysis, it proceeds to introduce the most important classes of numerical methods, with finite element, finite difference and spectral methods as central tools. The concluding section describes applications in physics and engineering, including wave propagation, heat conduction and fluid dynamics. Also covered are the principles of computers and programming, including MATLAB® Nota de contenido: Part I Models and elementary mathematics -- Part II Fundamentals in numerical analysis -- Part III Numerical methods for differential equations -- Part IV Numerical methods for algebraic equations -- Part V Applications -- References -- Index En línea: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-19495-5 Link: https://biblioteca.cunef.edu/gestion/catalogo/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=33415 Fundamentals of Scientific Computing [documento electrónico] / Bertil Gustafsson ; SpringerLink (Online service) . - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2011 . - XIV, 326 p : online resource. - (Texts in Computational Science and Engineering, ISSN 1611-0994; 8) .

Título : Robust Optimization of Spline Models and Complex Regulatory Networks : Theory, Methods and Applications Tipo de documento: documento electrónico Autores: Ayse Özmen ; SpringerLink (Online service) Editorial: Cham : Springer International Publishing Fecha de publicación: 2016 Otro editor: Imprint: Springer Colección: Contributions to Management Science, ISSN 1431-1941 Número de páginas: XII, 139 p. 22 illus., 20 illus. in color Il.: online resource ISBN/ISSN/DL: 978-3-319-30800-5 Idioma : Inglés (eng) Palabras clave: Business Operations research Decision making Mathematical models optimization Applied mathematics Engineering Environmental sciences and Management Operation Research/Decision Theory Optimization Modeling Industrial Mathematics Appl.Mathematics/Computational Methods of Math. Appl. in Science Clasificación: 658 Empresas. Organización de empresas Resumen: This book introduces methods of robust optimization in multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and Conic MARS in order to handle uncertainty and non-linearity. The proposed techniques are implemented and explained in two-model regulatory systems that can be found in the financial sector and in the contexts of banking, environmental protection, system biology and medicine. The book provides necessary background information on multi-model regulatory networks, optimization and regression. It presents the theory of and approaches to robust (conic) multivariate adaptive regression splines - R(C)MARS - and robust (conic) generalized partial linear models - R(C)GPLM - under polyhedral uncertainty. Further, it introduces spline regression models for multi-model regulatory networks and interprets (C)MARS results based on different datasets for the implementation. It explains robust optimization in these models in terms of both the theory and methodology. In this context it studies R(C)MARS results with different uncertainty scenarios for a numerical example. Lastly, the book demonstrates the implementation of the method in a number of applications from the financial, energy, and environmental sectors, and provides an outlook on future research Nota de contenido: Introduction -- Mathematical Methods Used -- New Robust Analytic Tools -- Spline Regression Models for Complex Multi-Model Regulatory Networks -- Robust Optimization in Spline Regression Models for Regulatory Networks Under Polyhedral Uncertainty -- Real-World Application with Our Robust Tools -- Conclusion and Outlook.
